I have a Manchester Terrier named Zena, and she is causing my roommate to hate my guts. I train Zena in the basic commands, but she still does things like jump on me or people, is nasty to other dogs, tries to steal food. Most recently, she peed on the rug in the front room, causing a really nasty fight where my roommate told me I was blackmailing her because of Zena.
I love my dog, but I feel my roommate hates my guts for not being a "master." Please help.

hi, it sounds like your dog thinks that it is the boss, if she is on her own for long periods of time she may be excited when you come home and she will jump up and try to get your attention, when she jumps up clap your hands and tell her no in a loud, firm tone, she may not be used to this if you havent tried it and she will learn that when she jumps she gets a negative response and she will stop, but also remember to reward her as soon as she stops jumping with a biscuit or scratch behind the ears lol. If she is peeing on the rug she is marking it as "her territory", if she pee's inside, put her outside immediately, if you do not have a garden, take her oustide on the lead and praise her for peeing oustide. If you think she is about to pee, take her out. If you know someone else with a dog, take her to their house and allow her to interact with the other dog, supervise them and keep them on leads if necessary until they settle, this will get her used to other dogs and teach her to socialize. If she is stealing food, chances are it is being left where she can see it or left low enough for her to reach, always eat your own food before feeding her as top dog always eats first and this will reinforce the fact that you are the boss, do not give her food off your plate whilst you are still eating or she will learn that if she begs, she'll get it. Ask your roommate to help by teaching her the commands and explain that she too has to show the dog that you's are the boss. hope this helps :)
